It is with great sadness that we inform you of the
passing of Brother Karl Matheuszik.
He passed away in his home on Mother’s
Day, Sunday May 14, 2006. He was 59 years old.
Karl was a long-serving member of the Machinists Union.
As an employee at Western Star Trucks during the 70’s and 80’s,
Karl became
a Union activist, and held many positions within his
Local Lodge, including
the position of President of Local Lodge 2710.
For the last 15 years of his career, Karl was a Union
Business Representative.
As a founding member of Northwest District 250, he
served the membership
in negotiations, grievances, and arbitrations. He also
was responsible for general
servicing duties of the membership at numerous
Companies throughout
British Columbia. Karl specialized in the auto dealer
group of Companies and spent
a great deal of his career in representing our
member auto technicians and parts persons.
Karl left his position as a Business Representative for
the Union in 2001,
and was enjoying a well-earned early retirement. Over the
past five years,
he frequently attended his Local Lodge 1857 meeting and
held the Representatives to task,
ever ensuring that “his” members got the
best Representation available.
Karl, you will be surely missed, and our condolences go
out to your family and loved ones.
On behalf of the members, officers,
staff, and Representatives of Northwest District 250
we thank you for your
“Rock Solid” service to the IAM.
