                          Labour Day Celebrations

BC Fed President
    Jim Sinclair addresses
rally supporters of all
working sectors on
Labour Day.

Labour Day Rally continued..... To see where workers have evolved from, imagine
having to work with no safety regulations to protect you,
working for 16 hours a day and your employer fines
you so you work just to pay off your fines. (see blue
jeans article) Lately we are falling backwards instead
                                                   of moving forward.

The minimum wage in British Columbia has been the same rate for the last 7 years, imagine not getting a raise for seven years!
Costs are rising for every thing, fuel alone has risen to almost 40% in the last year, its no surprise we have the highest child poverty rate in Canada. In BC there are 250,000 of the 2.3 million workers that earn less than $10. per hour. The Labour minister was asked why not raise the minimum wage? his response was almost no one makes that wage so its not important, well ask those 250,000 workers if its important and if its no big deal then why not raise it?.

While the premier of this province
refuses to raise the minimum wage
the government recently announced
they have raised their own wage by
43% for the top politicians.
and introduced a carbon tax that will
shelter corporations tax the working
people and do very little to save the
environment.

Over 20,000 forest workers have lost there jobs by the liberal
government cutting down our forests and shipping the raw logs
to outside Canada to have them manufactured.
The IAM has many members who work in the saw mill
manufacturing, industry and have been laid off because of the
           raw log export.
